🦜 Secret sutras of Vāstu. Indications about a land through jyotilakṣaṇa
/ .Puṣpalakṣaṇa & dīpalakṣaṇa.
There are many secretive procedures in
sastras to test a site for living or for finding out the ruling deity of a
place. This includes dīpalakṣaṇa (a lamp is used), puṣpalakṣaṇa (A special
flower is used) and jyotilakṣaṇa (Indications through special lamp and wick).
Then there are svapnalakṣaṇa and many other tests as well.
In a rare manuscript the author describes a
strange test through jyoti from special metal lamp. There is some ritualistic
procedure first where dikpāla are worshipped in a yantrā (14 of them are
mentioned, though most of the sastras enumerate them as ten) and then devī is
invoked. Then devī is offered her choicest food. After that the lakshan of jyoti
or wick of the lamp are observed.
🦜 When the flame stands upright (the land) it will always bestow happiness
🦜 When it is slanting in the direction of Kubera, it will bestow fame
and wealth
🦜 When (the flame is slanting) towards either Yakśas or Siddha it is
evil, that (land) certainly should always be avoided.
🦜 When the flame becomes contracted and the colour pale yellow, then
there will be bones below the ground.
🦜 When the flame is of Golden yellow colour and leaning towards Yama
then the land is full of wealth and will increase fame and glory.
🦜 When the flame has a colour of smoke and the tip of flame has a
circle of smoke then there will be a dead body in the ground. It is called śavayutā
in Sastras
🦜 If the flame touches the ground by any chance then it cannot be used for any purpose
