। ९० ।।  बृहत्संहिता ।।

The great scholar Varahamihira is talking about the effects of houses in vicinity. He is explaining the doshas that originate, if the houses in neighborhood are not paid attention to. This doctrine also tells how so called flamboyant vastu experts often ignore the basics in vastu and their lack of knowledge and half study approach has resulted in corruption of this pure science.
This is the most important part of vastu and I have seen it repeatedly been ignored by many people. Even the so-called experts in the industry ignore it or they are not even aware of these basic rules. These rules also appear in vedha sections of vastu granthas.

Results of various houses and neighbors in vicinity:

      1.    Minister’s house: If you are living near the house of a minister then you will suffer from “Arthanashah” or from loss of wealth.
2.    Rouge or Gambler’s house: The word “Dhurta” refers to both. If you live near a house having such people then you will suffer from loss of son.
3.    Near a temple: Mental afflictions will be caused by living near a temple.
4.    Near the crossings of the road:  It will bring infamy.
5.    Near a Holy tree: The commentator says “Chaitya Vrikshah”. It will cause danger by evil spirits. Peepal and Bada are holy trees. Chaitya means sacred tree growing on a mound. It also means funeral monument.
6.    Near a place filled with anthills or potholes: Calamity.
7.    Cave: It will bring the problem of thirst.
8.    Piece of ground shaped like a tortoise: Loss of wealth.
