You can look forward for following self-help points of vastu, while buying a plot or house for yourself. This are self-help vastu points which are easy to follow:
- (FIGURE 1)First pay attention to the size of plot. Vastu gives preference to squares or plots near to square. Second preference should be given to rectangular plots. The ratio between the length and breadth of the rectangular plot should be 1:2. So if your plot has a front of 40ft then depth should not be more than 80ft at the maximum. All other shapes needs correction, hence one needs a vastushatri for other kind of plots.

According to vastu sun should be straight from your line of view. This shows that vastu plot has good alignment with proper magnetic directions. Please note that sun can be any side from your plot and it should be rising sun only. You can use the setting sun for finding opposite directions. In this condition your right arm will point towards South and left towards North direction. You can make a rough diagram to get appropriate directions in your plot.
The claims of vastushastris that South and west directions are bad is all gibberish. None of directions are bad in vastu. In fact your planets will force you to choose directions of their choice.
- Do not worry about North facing or south facing houses in vastu. Vastu does not proclaims that any direction is bad. Construction in certain houses like South facing houses need special attention as South is related to “Dead entities.” Particular professions show very good growth in South facing houses.
- Avoid following type of plots for vastu even If they are coming cheap:
- e: Houses which carry cracks outside (FIGURE3) or houses carrying damp and dull walls.
- d: Avoid houses which are resting places for pigeons, cats, bats or owls. According to vastu granthas presence of pigeons, cats etc indicates presence of spirits inside the house.
- c: Plot near bridges, over bridges or crossings.
- b :Plot near railway lines.
- a: Plots near burial ground or graveyard.
- Houses with water body in north direction.
- Avoid plots near mobile towers or high tension lines or power stations. (FIGURE4, 5)

5. Check the moisture ratio of soil. This can be tested by “Khat” experiment or by using modern instruments like “humidity meter” & “PH meter”.
This tests shows us the productive ratio of people occupying the plot. Test the soil in normal conditions and not in rainy season. A barren land is not fit for occupancy.
- Avoid plots carrying rat holes. Rats invite snakes into house which is not good.
- Avoid plots which carry thorny bushes and plants which grown in dry regions.
- Avoid houses which are in vicinity to places of worship. Vastu of plots near temples, mosques or places of worship gets highly disturbed. According to “Vasturaj vallabha” temples and such places should be at least 200 yards away from the place of residence. So one should avoid plots located near places of worship. (FIGURE 6)
This eight point system is very easy and can be employed by anybody for buying a piece of land or some place of residence.
