VASTU SUTRA: There is no mention of directions or movements of stairs in any of the vastu texts. The so called myth that stairs should not be constructed in North east is faulty. According to Manasara the steps can be constructed in suitable place in all sides or any directions in a clock wise manner. Mr.Kushdeep Bansal mentions in his Mahavastu book that it is not mentioned anywhere in actual vastu books. This is a faulty idea as well , it is clearly mentioned in many classics including Manasara.
