VASTU SUTRA: According to "Mayamattam" and "Vastu Raj vallabha" Mandukya pad is used for temples and village construction and 81 or "Ekasti Pada" is used for all type of constructions. The reason I believe is the absence of malefic Rahu leaving 8x8 divisions. Rahu is maleccha and is not used in temple constructions. For a Grahasta, Rahu also confers boons in the form of materialistic fulfilment. This is the reason why Ekshati is 9x9.
